Our EV Charging Experience
Since 1924, Blaupunkt has been known for car accessories and home electronics. In 2016, we applied that background to a new challenge: electric vehicle charging. We started where our experience was strongest, home and car appliances, so we focussed on home and portable charging.
By emphasizing build quality and simplicity, our charging products quickly gained traction across Europe. Reliability is a high bar in this industry, and we were honored when our portable charger became the go-to product used by TüV for their product training. For us, this was an important milestone and proof that simplicity and safety are what users actually value.
Expanding into Public Infrastructure
The year 2023 was a turning point. As European regulations evolved, we saw that EV charging was a primary industry of the future. With SmartCharge we introduced smart software functions into our home charging stations and took our first step into the commercial sector with DC fast chargers. This marked the beginning of Blaupunkt's venture from only creating retail appliances to public infrastructure.
This expansion taught us that hardware is only half the battle. Beginning our operations in the Middle East (UAE), it pushed us to become a service-oriented company. Offering 24/7 support, installation, and maintenance has given us a direct feedback loop from the field, helping us understand the logistical realities of maintaining a charging network.
Global and Middle East Expansion
While our roots are in Europe, we’ve focused heavily on emerging markets where the demand for new infrastructure is highest. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as a key region for us. By 2025, we established a local office and warehouse in the UAE to better manage our regional supply chain and support services.
As of 2026 our EV charging products are present in 25 countries and counting.
What has our global presence taught us?
Real-World Versatility
Global expansion has also been a masterclass in engineering for the elements. We’ve had to ensure our technology performs reliably across vastly different environments.
Extreme Heat and Dust
Managing thermal loads and filtration in arid climates like the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Real heat under Arabic sun cannot be compared to that of testing environments.
Cold and Moisture
Protecting sensitive electronics against the humidity and freezing temperatures of Northern Europe. It's expecially challenging to keep steady charging speeds in the cold.
Service Orientation
When working with CPOs and Installers we focus on delivering support as quickly and locally as possible. That's why we plan the maintenance of our charging stations thoroughly and train local staff for free.
